Nationwide SIP Telephony Network Design to Prevent Congestion Caused by Disaster
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a session initiation protocol (SIP) network design for a voice-over-IP network to prevent congestion caused by people calling friends and family after a disaster. The design increases the capacity of SIP servers in a network by using all of the SIP servers equally. It takes advantage of the fact that equipment for voice data packets is different from equipment for signaling packets in SIP networks. Furthermore, the design achieves simple routing on the basis of telephone numbers. We evaluated the performance of our design in preventing congestion through simulation. We showed that the proposed design has roughly 20 times more capacity, which is 57 times the normal load, than the conventional design if a disaster were to occur in Niigata Prefecture struck by the Chuetsu earthquake in 2004. key words: load balancing, congestion, disaster, VoIP, SIP, network design

Overload Control in a SIP Signaling Network
The Internet telephony employs a new type of Internet communication on which a mutual communication is realized by establishing sessions. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is used to establish sessions between end-users. For unreliable transmission (UDP), SIP message should be retransmitted when it is lost. The retransmissions increase a load of the SIP signaling network, and sometimes lead to ...
متن کاملSTEM: Secure Telephony Enabled Middlebox
Dynamic applications, including IP telephony, have not seen wide acceptance within enterprises because of problems caused by the existing network infrastructure. Static elements, including firewalls and network address translation devices, are not capable of allowing dynamic applications to operate properly. The Secure Telephony Enabled Middlebox (STEM) architecture is an enhancement upon the e...
متن کاملP2P architecture for IP telephony using SIP
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a control protocol standardized by IETF and implemented on the application layer. It can be used to establish, modify, and terminate Internet conferencing, telephony and some other multimedia sessions.[1] SIP uses server and client architecture, Peer-toPeer (P2P) is another popular technology that accomplishes the same functionality in an overlay network whe...
متن کاملCross-platform Approach to Advanced IP-Telephony Services using JAIN-SIP
SIP is a call control and signalling protocol that was adopted by the 3GPP to deliver IP multimedia services to the mobile network. Cross platform IP-telephony service creation is a challenging task. Although, the emergence of JAIN-SIP has reinforced the development and implementation of platform-independent IP-telephony services, the development of advanced cross-platform SIP (Session Initiati...
متن کاملRFC 5638 SIP Usage
For Internet-centric usage, the number of SIP-required standards for presence and IM and audio/video communications can be drastically smaller than what has been published by using only the rendezvous and session-initiation capabilities of SIP. The simplification is achieved by avoiding the emulation of telephony and its model of the intelligent network. ’Simple SIP’ relies on powerful computin...
